TotalEnergies celebrates 100 years in business

France

PARIS, March 29, 2024 – TotalEnergies on Thursday marked its 100-year anniversary, celebrating with a historical retrospective.

The company was founded in Paris on March 28, 1924, as Compagnie Française des Pétroles with the vision of relieving France of its dependence on oil supplies from US and UK companies.

Its first acquisition, which took place that year, was of Germany’s confiscated shares in the Turkish Petroleum Company.

Over the years, the company, which rebranded as Total in 1985, built up an extensive portfolio of global operations.

In 2021, Total cemented its new focus on the energy transition with a name change to TotalEnergies.

Today, TotalEnergies bills itself as a multi-energy company that produces and markets energies globally, including oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity.

It has operations in close to 130 countries spanning six continents, and counts more than 100,000 employees.
