Chiyoda bags Qatar deal

DOHA, March 20, 2018 – Qatar Petroleum (QP) has awarded Japan’s Chiyoda Corporation a FEED contract for three large LNG trains to service the North Field offshore development, the Qatari NOC announced on Monday.

Each train will have a capacity of 7.8 million tpy, raising Qatar’s total LNG output from 77 million tpy to 100 million tpy, in line with targets announced earlier, the press release added. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

“The award of the front-end engineering and design contract to Chiyoda Corporation is a significant milestone in our journey to deliver the first LNG from this new project by the end of 2023,” said Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, QP’s CEO and president. “We are continuing discussions with potential international joint venture partners for this strategic project to determine an optimised arrangement with the objective of delivering maximum value to the state of Qatar and contribute to the optimal utilisation of Qatar’s natural resources.”
