Dangote Refinery begins petrol processing
LAGOS, September 3, 2024 – Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery has begun processing petrol, Devakumar Edwin, vice-president of Dangote Industries Limited, said on Monday.
The sole buyer of the petrol is intended to be state oil firm NNPC. If they are unable to purchase it, Edwin said, “We will export it as we have been exporting our aviation jet fuel and diesel.”
The news comes at a time when Nigeria has struggled to supply its domestic fuel market with imports, with fuel queues persisting since July 2024.
Almost all fuel is imported in Nigeria, and no petrol has been produced in-country for years. Refining activity has recently recommenced as the country seeks to eliminate its dependency on fuel imports.
