Denmark

COPENHAGEN, October 15, 2021 – Vestas Wind Systems has given the green light to install the world’s largest and most powerful wind turbine at the Østerild test centre in Denmark, the company announced today.

The asset will stretch 280 metres into the air with blades 115.5 metres long and have an output of 80 GWh per year.

The 15-MW prototype turbine will be installed in H2 2022, with commissioning planned in Q4 2022.

“Getting the prototype turbine in the ground will underline how the V236-15.0 MW will raise the bar in terms of technological innovation, industrialisation and scale in the wind energy industry,” said Anders Nielsen, chief technology officer at Vestas Wind Systems.
