Australia

PERTH, October 21, 2015 – Norwegian oil and gas services firm DNV GL has been awarded an in-service verification and classification contract by Japan’s Inpex Corporation for the $34-billion Ichthys LNG project.

Throughout the Ichthys development phase, DNV GL will provide services for several of the Ichthys facilities, including the offshore central processing facility; subsea production system; and the floating production, storage and offloading unit. Onshore facilities that will see DNV GL’s services are an 889-kilometre gas export pipeline, a combined-cycle power plant and an LNG plant. The company has been working with Inpex on the project since 2012.

When the mega-project enters production in 2017, it is expected to produce 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per year. The Ichthys field, located about 200 kilometres offshore Western Australia, is estimated to hold 340 bcm (12 tcf) of gas and 500 million barrels of condensate.
