Egypt gas discovery shows fast-track potential for Eni
SAN DONATO MILANESE, April 8, 2026 – Eni has discovered significant quantities of gas and condensate in the Denise W exploration well in the Temsah Concession offshore Egypt, the company announced on Tuesday.
Denise W was drilled approximately 70 kilometres offshore in water depths of about 95 metres, encountering about 50 metres of net pay. Initial estimates indicate the presence of around 56.6 bcm (2 tcf) of gas initially in place, plus associated condensates.
The discovery is located less than 10 kilometres from existing infrastructure and is a candidate for fast-track development.
The well was drilled following a binding agreement signed in July 2025 with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for a 20-year renewal of the Temsah Concession.
Eni and BP each holda 50% interest in the Temsah Concession, which is operated by Petrobtel, a joint venture between Eni and EGPC.
with a 50% working interest, with BP as partner with the remaining 50% alongside bp’s 50%, while Petrobel operates the asset.[4]
In Egypt, Eni engages in hydrocarbons development and production through the Baltim W, Meleiha, Nooros and Zohr projects, as well as in refining and marketing. The company is also a joint-venture participant in the Damietta LNG plant.
