Eni, Sonangol lay first stone on Angolan solar plant
LUANDA, May 24, 2022 – A joint venture between Eni and NOC Sonangol has begun construction of Angola’s first photovoltaic power plant in Caraculo, Angola, the Italian super-major announced on Friday.
The 50:50 development will see the two companies develop a 50-MW facility through phased development, the first of which will have a capacity of 25 MW. The electricity will be dispatched to the country’s southern territory grid.
Italian oilfield services company Saipem was chosen to perform construction activities. Expected completion dates of the first and final phase were not disclosed.
The project is in line with Angola’s aims to add 500 MW of renewable energy projects by the end of 2022, including solar, wind, biomass and mini-hydro developments.
