ADNOC, Masdar and BP partner to explore hydrogen

ABU DHABI, May 25, 2022 – ADNOC and Emirati renewables company Masdar have signed strategic partnerships with BP for development of hydrogen related projects in the UK and the UAE, the Emirati NOC announced on Tuesday.

ADNOC and BP have agreed to work together to develop the design phase of the H2Teesside blue hydrogen project in Teesside, UK.

Masdar signed an MoU with BP to develop the HyGreen Teesside green hydrogen project powered by offshore wind in the same area.

ADNOC and BP are also exploring production of sustainable aviation fuel from municipal waste and green hydrogen in the UAE. The initiative will involve capabilities of UAE’s Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre and Etihad Airways.

“In the UK, our role in Teesside will represent ADNOC’s first investment into the UK and help to accelerate innovation in decarbonization of energy in industrial sectors,” said Ahmed Al Jaber, ADNOC’s managing director and CEO and Masdar’s chairman.

“Similarly, the partners’ collaboration in Abu Dhabi is expected to further position the UAE as a leader in low-carbon energies and technology-driven industrial growth.
