Petrofac wins work in Mauritania and Senegal

DAKAR, May 26, 2022 – Petrofac has been chosen to provide offshore operations services for BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project on the maritime boundary of Mauritania and Senegal, the British oilfield services company announced on Wednesday.

Petrofac is responsible for providing specialist personnel, plant and equipment to support operations at the FPSO and LNG hub.

Cost and length of the contract was not disclosed.

 

The GTA development is expected to begin producing in 2023 with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. The project has water depths of 2 kilometres, making it the deepest offshore project on the continent.

The GTA consists of two offshore gasfields, the Tortue in Mauritania and Ahmeyim in Senegal.

The two governments agreed to co-develop the fields in February 2018.

The Tortue field sits on Block C-8 and is operated by BP with a 62% stake along with partners Kosmos Energy with a 28% stake and state-run Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier holding the remaining 10% stake.

The Ahmeyim field sits on the Saint Louis Offshore Profound block and is operated by BP with a 60% stake along with partners Kosmos Energy with a 30% stake and Petronas with the remaining 10% stake.
