Eni takes four blocks off Côte d’Ivoire

ABIDJAN, November 28, 2024 – Eni has acquired four oil and gas exploration blocks offshore Côte d’Ivoire, the company announced on Thursday.
Blocks CI-504, CI-526, CI-706 and CI-708 cover a total area of about 5,720 square kilometres and lie in water depths ranging from 1,000-3,500 metres.
Eni now has a licence to explore the areas, located nearby Block CI-205’s Calao discovery, for up to nine years.
The company has been active in Côte d’Ivoire since 2015 and today has an equity production of around 22,000 boepd.
Its star asset in the country, the Baleine field, was discovered in 2021. Baleine is the largest oil and gas find in the country, with estimated resources of 2.5 billion barrels and 93.5 bcm (3.3 tcf) of associated gas.
Production from the field was launched in August 2023 via the Baleine FPSO, which has a capacity of 15,000 bopd and 708,000 cubic metres (25 mcf) per day of gas. A second phase is underway.
Baleine is Africa’s first oil and gas project to have net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
