Equinor launches production at 531-MW Brazil solar plant

RIO DE JANEIRO, March 8, 2024 – Equinor has brought its 531-MW Mendubim solar plant on line in Brazil, the Norwegian energy player announced on Friday.

The launch marks a 30% increase in the company’s equity power production in the country.

Around 60% of power generated will be sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Alunorte, the world’s largest alumina factory outside of China.

The remainder of the power will be sold in the domestic market.

Brazil is South America’s largest power market, and Equinor sees significant future demand growth.

In 2024, the company plans to double its global renewable power production, which stood at around 2 TWh in 2023.
