Exxon hits big offshore Nigeria

ExxonMobil and partners Chevron and Total reported a major oil discovery off Nigeria late on Thursday. Made in the Owowo field, the find could increase the asset’s potential recoverable oil resources to as many as 1 billion barrels.

According to Exxon, the Owowo-3 exploration well encountered a “significant” oil-bearing reservoir of 140 metres, which was labelled “high quality.” The discovery was made in 576 metres of water in a well drilled to 373 metres.

“We are encouraged by the results and will work with our partners and the government on future development plans,” ExxonMobil Exploration Company President Stephen Greenlee said in a reaction.
