Exxon declares force majeure on Qua Iboe

ABUJA, July 15, 2016 – A “system anomaly” discovered during a routine check has prompted ExxonMobil’s Nigerian subsidiary, Mobil Producing Nigeria, to declare force majeure on Qua Iboe crude exports. Announced on Friday, the measure came into effect after an inspection of its loading facility on Thursday.

“We are working to ensure loading activities at the facility return to normal. We cannot speculate on any timeline for repairs,” a company spokesperson said, adding that the Qua Iboe Terminal was operational and that production activities were still on going.

Earlier this week, the Niger Delta Avengers claimed they had attacked and blown up the 48-inch Qua Iboe export line, an assertion that was subsequently denied by ExxonMobil. The company spokesperson on Friday reiterated that the two events – the alleged attack and the “system anomaly” – were unrelated.
