ExxonMobil joins Acorn carbon capture project

UK

EDINBURGH, July 19, 2021 – US super-major ExxonMobil has announced the signing of an MoU to participate in the Acorn carbon capture and storage project in Scotland.

The Friday announcement will see ExxonMobil joining with Shell, Harbour Energy and project-leader Storegga, a subsidiary of Pale Blue Dot, to build the project.

The Acorn project looks to capture at least 5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030 from gas terminals in Saint Fergus, including ExxonMobil’s joint venture terminal. Captured carbon dioxide will be shipped using existing pipeline 100 kilometres offshore and stored in rock formations below the North Sea.
