HOUSTON, December 15, 2016 – Darren W. Woods has been appointed as the new chairman and chief executive of ExxonMobil, the company announced late on Wednesday. Woods had been Exxon’s president since January.

Woods follows in the footsteps of Rex Tillerson, who earlier this week received the nomination for Secretary of State in the upcoming Trump administration. Woods is coming up to his 25th year at ExxonMobil, where he spent most of his time with the refining and supply unit. He was appointed president of the division in 2012, a position he held alongside that of vice-president of Exxon. He made senior vice-president two years later.
