GE clinches $610-mln LNG contract

HOUSTON, October 23, 2015 – GE and US LNG company Cheniere Energy have renewed a $610-million LNG services contract, the US multinational conglomerate announced on Thursday.
Under the terms of the 20-year contract, GE is expected to provide spare parts, regular inspections, maintenance services and technical support for two LNG trains currently under construction at Cheniere’s facility in Corpus Christi.
GE will provide these services for each of the train’s refrigerant compressors and six turbines. Each LNG train is expected to have a production capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per year. The company will begin constructing its equipment onsite in January 2017, as the trains will begin producing LNG in 2018.
GE and Cheniere struck a similar deal in December 2014 for a $1-billion maintenance contract for the Louisiana Sabine Pass facility. These projects are part of US natural gas market’s expansion into LNG production.
