GE to provide training programmes for Emiratis

ABU DHABI, July 2, 2014 – US energy conglomerate GE Oil & Gas signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to provide specalised training programmes to Abu Dhabi’s Petroleum Institute (PI) over three years.

Under the terms of the MoU, GE Oil & Gas will also provide PI students with summer internship opportunities and educational tools. GE will support at least one senior graduation project per year and two training sessions per term, as well as hosting at least one field visit per term. The summer internship opportunities will initially number three to four. GE hopes to expand the programme to offer 10 internships within the three years of the agreement.

The MoU was signed between Rami Qasem, president and CEO of GE Oil & Gas for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, and Ismail Tag, acting president and provost of PI.

The government of Abu Dhabi has prioritised the development of human capital in its Economic Vision 2030 framework. With oil and gas the main contributor to the emirate’s economy, the PI’s aim is to build a talented pool of Emiratis who can transition into professional jobs in the energy industry and help Abu Dhabi its human resource development goals.
