Ghana transfers power deals to ECG

ACCRA, August 2, 2018 – The Ministry of Energy intends to make Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) the custodian of all power purchase agreements in the country, local media reported Wednesday.

Minister of Energy Boakye Agyarko has told Parliament’s Joint Committee on Finance and Mines and Energy that power purchase agreements will be transferred from the Volta River Authority to the ECG so the agency can concentrate on hydropower generation, Business Ghana reported.

The move is part of the government’s restructuring process in power sector institutions. The ECG will lease its distribution system assets to the concessionaire and allow it to make necessary modifications over a 20-year period.
