Glencore says NOC sole Libya oil seller

Libya

TRIPOLI, November 26, 2015 – Following the September start of its export deal with Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), commodities trader Glencore has stated that it recognises the company as the sole legal marketer of oil in the country.

The international community and companies “have made it very clear there is no alternative to the NOC at its legal address in Tripoli as the only recognised marketer of Libyan oil,” Glencore’s head of oil, Alex Beard, said.

NOC has said it operates independently from both the internationally recognised government and its rival, which currently controls the capital, Tripoli.

Earlier this year, the internationally recognised government set up a separate national oil company.

Its rival government said recently it would block any Glencore oil shipments through Libyan ports if the traders did business with NOC, Bloomberg reported last week.
