Gorgon LNG Train 3 on stream

Australia

PERTH, March 28, 2017 – Chevron on Tuesday announced that the third train of its Gorgon LNG project on Western Australia’s Barrow Island had commenced production.

With the start-up of Train 3, the USD 53-billion LNG facility will be ramped up to its full production capacity, 15.6 million tonnes of LNG per year.

“This is a key milestone for the Gorgon joint venture participants, our workforce, customers, government and all those associated with the project over its lifetime should be extremely proud,” the managing director of Chevron’s local unit, Nigel Hearne, said.

Last week, Hearne noted the company would tap the brakes of its Australia LNG operations. “As it stands there is unlikely to be another large greenfield LNG development [in Western Australia],” Hearne, said during a speech.

“I can’t see in the near-term us investing in a fourth train at Gorgon or a third train at Wheatstone,” he added.
