NEW ORLEANS, September 2, 2021 – Around 80% of US hydrocarbons operations on the Gulf of Mexico have been halted, government agency Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement reported on Wednesday.

The shutdown represents a loss of 1.5 million bopd and 53.8 mcm (1.9 bcf) per day of gas for operators.

At the time, personnel had evacuated 249 of the 560 manned rigs in the gulf.

Hurricane Ida is a category four storm with 240-kilometre-per-hour winds that hit the Louisiana coast, cutting the power in New Orleans.

Shell reported significant damage to its operations.

Chevron said preliminary overflights saw little damage, but post-storm assessments are continuing.
