India puts 26 oil and gas blocks on offer in latest auction

NEW DELHI, October 12, 2022 – India has put 26 oil and gas blocks spread over nine basins up for auction, the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons announced on Tuesday.

Of the 223,000 square kilometres on offer, 15 are ultra-deepwater, eight are shallow water and three are onshore plays.

The concessions sit on the following basins: Krishna-Godavari, Mahanadani, Saurashtra, Andaman-Nicobar, Bengal-Purnea, Mumbai Offshore, Cauvery and Assam Shelf and Cambay.

 

All are offered under the India Open Acreage and Licensing Policy.

Simultaneously, the government has put up 16 coal-methane blocks under the same policy.

India holds the fifth largest coal reserves in the world.
