Indian tanker free after pirate attack

NEW DELHI, February 6, 2018 – The crew of an Indian oil tanker has regained control over their vessel after a pirate attack off the coast of Benin, the tanker’s management company announced on social media on Tuesday.

 

“Full control of the vessel was resumed at approximately 04:00 Singapore time today. All crew members are reported to be safe and well, and the cargo of 13,500 tons of gasoline remains on board,” Anglo-Eastern Ship Management said in a statement on Facebook.

“A complete investigation will be carried out into the hijacking,” the statement added, without providing further details.

The Marine Express tanker with 22 Indian crew disappeared on February 1.
