Iraq calls for refinery investment

BAGHDAD, April 25, 2017 – Iraq’s Ministry of Oil on Monday called for investment in a 300,000-bpd greenfield refinery project, which it said could be expanded to include a petrochemicals facility.

The plant, which is planned in the Al Faw area near Basra, can be executed on a build-operate-transfer or build-own-operate basis. Interested parties have until August 1, 2017, to express interest in the project.

In related news, the ministry’s Oil Marketing Company, commonly referred to as SOMO, is reportedly mulling the sale of Basra light crude through the Dubai Mercantile Exchange. The country is also said to be eying crude storage opportunities in Oman.
