Iraq opens bid round for 11 oil and gas blocks

BAGHDAD, June 22, 2023 – Iraq has put 11 concessions on offer under its sixth oil and gas bid round, Iraq’s Ministry of Oil announced on Sunday.

 

Eight of the blocks are in the province of Anbar in western Iraq, one block is located in the province of Nineveh in the north of the country, one is located between Anbar and Najaf provinces and the last is located between Anbar and Nineveh provinces.

In May 2023, Iraq’s Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul-Ghani announced that Iraq’s hydrocarbons reserves had increased by 10 billion barrels of oil and 227 bcm (8 tcf) following a 3D seismic survey completed near Basra.

This would bring up the country’s estimated reserves to 155 billion of oil and 3.97 tcm (140 tcf) of gas.
