ROME, November 15, 2023 – Italy’s EUR 1.7-billion programme to install 1.04 GW via agrivoltaics, under which land is used for both agriculture and solar power generation, has been approved by the European Commission.

The Italian government has allocated a total of EUR 1.1 billion to investment grants intended to cover up to 40% of agrivoltaic project costs. A further EUR 560 million has been earmarked for tariffs designed to incentivise the investments.

Projects receiving grants will need to be operational by the end of H1 2026.

The European Commission is supporting the agrivoltaics scheme to further Italy’s efforts to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix in line with the EU Green Deal, the governing body said in a statement released November 10.
