Jordan picks Shell for 2-year LNG deal
UK LONDON, October 14, 2015 – Jordan has chosen Shell to supply LNG to the country for two years, following a competitive bid round for the purchase of 78 cargoes over four years.
Trading sources told Reuters that while Shell had clinched the deal for 2016-2017, it was not yet clear who would supply the final two years tendered.
Jordan’s state-owned National Electric Power Company launched the tender in July.
In January, Shell and the Jordanian company signed a five-year LNG supply deal under which the Anglo-Dutch super-major delivers the equivalent of around 4.2 mcm (148 mcf) of gas per day to a terminal in Aqaba.
Shell operates more than 40 LNG carriers and recently bolstered its natural gas reserves with the acquisition of BG Group.
