Lukoil makes gas discovery off Romania
Romania BUCHAREST, October 15, 2015 – Lukoil has encountered gas in a deepwater well in Romania’s Trident block, the company said on Wednesday.
The Russian state operator made the find in the Lira 1X exploration well, which was drilled to a depth of 2,700 metres.
Lukoil operates the block as Lukoil Overseas Atash, working alongside Romania’s Societatea Nationala de Gaze Naturale Romgaz and Texas-headquartered PanAtlantic Petroleum.
Seismic data has pegged the Trident field’s reserves at a minimum of 29.7 bcm (1.05 tcf) of gas. Lukoil says a more precise estimation will be reached in 2016.
Lukoil’s share in the block stands at 72 percent, while PanAtlantic holds 18 percent and Societatea Nationala de Gaze Naturale Romgaz 10 percent.
