Korean firm wins Gulf offshore work

ABU DHABI, July 16, 2014 – The Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company awarded South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries a $1.94-billion contract for the Nasr oilfield offshore Abu Dhabi, Hyundai announced on Sunday.

Hyundai will build four offshore platforms. One will house a gas treatment plant and one an air separation platform, with the others an all-purpose structure and accommodation site. The new facilities will increase production at the Nasr field – 130 kilometres northwest of Abu Dhabi – from 22,000 barrels of oil per day to 65,000 barrels per day.

Under the terms of the contract, the engineering firm will also lay 144 kilometres of subsea power line and 55 kilometres of infield cable, as well as renewing existing structures including a manifold tower and two wellhead towers.

Hyundai is expected to begin work in July 2014. Construction of the platforms is set to be complete by the end of 2019.
