Kuwait announces major offshore gas discovery
KUWAIT CITY, October 14, 2025 – Kuwait’s national upstream operator KOC has made a major natural gas discovery in the Al Jazah offshore field, the company said in a statement to Kuwaiti news agency KUNA on Monday.
Initial results from the Jazah-1 well yielded production rates of more than 821,000 cubic metres (29 mcf) of natural gas per day, the highest recorded from a vertical well in the Minagish formation. KOC indicated that the reservoir is characterised by low carbon dioxide levels and is free of hydrogen sulphide and associated water, making it a technically rare discovery.
The Jazah field is estimated to cover approximately 40 square kilometres and hold reserves of up to 28.3 bcm (1 tcf) of natural gas, figures which may increase with the exploration of adjacent reservoirs. Its discovery follows significant offshore finds by Kuwait in the Al Nokhatha field in July 2024 and Al Julaia in January 2025.
“These discoveries reflect the professionalism of Kuwaiti teams exploring unprecedented frontiers in the oil and gas sector,” said KPC CEO Sheikh Nawaf S. Al Sabah.
