Kuwait formally inaugurates Al Zour refinery
KUWAIT CITY, May 30, 2024 – Kuwait has officially inaugurated the Al Zour refinery in a ceremony presided over by H.H. the Emir Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah on Wednesday, local media reported.
Al Zour refinery is located in Southern Kuwait and reached its full refining capacity of 615,000 bopd in February 2024 following maintenance and repair of two units a month earlier.
The plant’s three distillation units are designed to process several types of oil, including Kuwait Heavy Crude. Its output capabilities include export products such as fuel oil, diesel and naphtha but will mainly consist of low-sulphur fuel to supply Kuwait’s power plants.
In attendance, Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Board of Directors of KPC H.E. Imad Al Atiqi noted that Al Zour brings Kuwait’s refining capacity to two million barrels per day.
Said capacity is distributed across three refineries in Kuwait, namely Mina Abdullah, Mina Al Ahmadi and Al Zour, and three overseas facilities: the OQ8 (Duqm) refinery in Oman, the Nghi Son refinery in Vietnam and the Milazzo refinery in Italy.
