L&T, ACWA Power sign MoU for Saudi green hydrogen hub
YANBU, September 23, 2025 – The renewables arm of Indian EPC company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed an MoU with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power to co-operate on the renewables and grid portion of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project, L&T announced on Monday.
Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project will feature integrated solar and wind generation farms and battery energy storage facilities, along with the required substation and transmission infrastructure for connection to the Saudi grid. It is expected to launch commercial operations by 2030.
The agreement establishes a framework for L&T and ACWA Power to design an optimised renewables configuration to meet performance targets. In addition, L&T has committed to signing an EPC contract for the project following approval of the final proposal.
“The rapid pace of development on the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Project is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s leadership role in the global energy transition,” said ACWA Power CEO Marco Arcelli.
T. Madhava Das, senior executive vice-president of L&T, added, “Saudi Arabia is strategically located between east and west, produces renewable energy at competitive rates and develops ultra-mega projects with clear timelines. We are happy to contribute to its ambitions of promoting regional and international integration of clean energy.”
ACWA Power entered into a joint development agreement with German energy company EnBW in July 2025 for the first phase of the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub. The company also signed a multi-party MoU with EnBW together with TotalEnergies Renewables from France, Edison and Zhero Europe from Italy to explore large-scale renewable energy projects and the export of electricity to Europe.
