Maersk wins Aker contract for Ghana drilling

ACCRA, September 25, 2018 – Maersk Drilling and Aker Energy have agreed a new contract for the drilling of an appraisal well offshore Ghana, the companies announced on Tuesday.

The Maersk Viking, an ultra-deepwater drillship, is set to begin drilling in the Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points block in Q4 2018. The Pecan-4A well is expected to take 30-35 days to drill.

“The main objective of the well will be to test the extension of the Pecan Field. This will give valuable and important input when optimising the plan of development for the field and in understanding the wider appraisal potential of the block,” said Jan Arve Haugan, the CEO of Aker Energy.

Aker Energy is the operator of the block with a 50% participating interest alongside partners Lukoil (38%), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10%) and Fueltrade (2%).
