Mexico approves Zama field development project

Mexico’s authorities have approved the Pemex-driven Zama field development project, Upstream Online reported on Monday.

Unit development plans were submitted to Mexico’s National Hydrocarbons Commission in March 2023.

The Zama field located in the Gulf of Mexico was discovered in 2017 and is expected to hold around 850 million barrels of oil.

The development includes two offshore platforms and 46 wells linked to Pemex’s onshore Dos Bocas terminal.

The project is expected to produce up to 180,000 bopd.

The FID on the development is expected to take place this year.

Pemex became the operator of the field in March 2022.

In May 2023, Mexican conglomerate Grupo Carso took a 49.9% interest in Talos Energy’s Mexican subsidiary Talos Mexico that holds a 17.4% stake in the Zama field for USD 125 million.

Pemex holds the remaining stake in the field.
