Pemex takes charge of Mexico’s Zama field
MEXICO CITY, March 29, 2022 – Talos Energy has received a final unitisation resolution from the state regarding the offshore Zama field in Mexico with NOC Pemex installed as operator, the Houston-based E&P company announced on Monday.
Unitisation of the asset was required as the field is in both Talos Energy-operated Block 7 and the adjacent Pemex-operated block.
Talos Energy holds an operating 35% share in Block 7 and will retain a 17.35% share of the Zama field.
The field was discovered by Talos Energy in 2017 and holds an estimated 735 million to 950 million boe. Independent third-party operators approximate production figures at 160,000 boepd once fully developed.
The companies’ final investment decision is expected in 2023 following the submission of a unit development plan.
