NextDecade signs LNG export contract with China

HOUSTON, March 28, 2022 – NextDecade Corporation has signed a 20-year heads of agreement with China’s Guangdong Energy Group Natural Gas Company for supply of LNG from the Rio Grande LNG export project in Texas, the Houston-based LNG and carbon capture company announced on Thursday.

The deal will see the Chinese energy company purchase 1.5 million tonnes of LNG per year from the first train of the Rio Grande LNG development once it comes on line in 2026.

Upon completion, the Rio Grande LNG asset will have an export capacity of 27 million tonnes per year of LNG.

The final sales and purchase agreement is expected to be signed in Q2 2022.
