Mitsubishi awards offshore wind contracts

TOKYO, March 1, 2022 – Mitsubishi has selected Dutch maritime contracting company Van Oord and Japanese construction company Kajima for work on its trio of offshore wind projects in Japan with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW, the Japanese multinational announced today.

The balance of plant contracts include providing all supporting components and auxiliary systems other than the wind turbines.

A consortium led by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions was selected by the government to build the three offshore projects in Akita and Chiba in December 2021.

They include a 391-MW facility in Chiba and a 479-MW facility and 819-MW facility in Akita. The latter will be the largest windfarm in Japan.

Commissioning of the projects is expected to start in the second half of this decade.
