Mitsubishi awards offshore wind contracts

TOKYO, March 1, 2022 – Mitsubishi has selected Dutch maritime contracting company Van Oord and Japanese construction company Kajima for work on its trio of offshore wind projects in Japan with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW, the Japanese multinational announced today.

The balance of plant contracts include providing all supporting components and auxiliary systems other than the wind turbines.

 

A consortium led by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions was selected by the government to build the three offshore projects in Akita and Chiba in December 2021.

They include a 391-MW facility in Chiba and a 479-MW facility and 819-MW facility in Akita. The latter will be the largest windfarm in Japan.

Commissioning of the projects is expected to start in the second half of this decade.

Cost of the awarded works was not disclosed.
