New rig placed in Nigeria’s Ororo field
ABUJA, October 9, 2018 – Shelf Drilling’s Adriatic I jackup rig will be used for a two-well campaign at Sirius Petroleum’s Ororo field, located in the OML 95 licence offshore Nigeria, international media reported Monday.
Contracted for 135 days for an undisclosed amount, the rig will drill the Ororo-2 and Ororo-3 wells starting later in Q4.
Sirius had previously cancelled a contract with China Oilfield Services for the COSL Force rig due to recertification issues.
The Ororo field contains an estimated 35.5 million-44.1 million barrels of oil and 7.84 bcm-11 bcm (277 bcf-390 bcf) of gas in place. Sirius operates the licence with a 40% stake, along with partners Guarantee Petroleum (33%) and Owena Oil & Gas (27%).
