Niger Delta ceasefire in sight

ABUJA, August 30, 2016 – The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have halted hostilities towards oil facilities in Nigeria, the group announced on their website yesterday.

The group’s announcement was made a week after it said it would support negotiations with the Nigerian government to de-escalate the conflict. Nigeria’s military had announced on Saturday that it launched a new operation against the NDA, killing five group members and arresting 23.

Output from the Niger Delta represents the larger part of Nigeria’s oil production, but production in the region fell by around 700,000 bpd to 1.56 million bpd since the NDA started carrying attacks on upstream and midstream facilities.
