Nigeria oil workers kidnapped

ABUJA, January 22, 2018 – Five Sahara Energy Oil Company workers have been kidnapped in Nigeria, local and international media reported over the weekend.

The five were travelling by boat to an offshore installation in the Niger Delta region when they were intercepted by unknown gunmen, daily Vanguard reported.

“The police in partnership with the military are working to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt with the perpetrators arrested and brought to book,” Andrew Aniamaka, a police spokesman in Delta State, told the newspaper.

The incident took place days after militant group the Niger Delta Avengers threatened to attack offshore oil and gas facilities.

The reports came as Nigeria’s security services freed two American and two Canadian citizens kidnapped earlier in a separate incident in Kaduna state in the north.
