Nigeria prioritises giant FLNG project

ABUJA, July 24, 2023 – NNPC has signed a heads of agreement for stake in Nigeria’s first FLNG project, the Nigerian NOC announced on Thursday.

The contract signed with oil and gas operator UTM Offshore gives the state-owned firm a 20% stake in the project, which aims to raise the country’s LNG production by 1.5 million tonnes per year.

The development will source its gas from the offshore Yoho field, which is operated by ExxonMobil in partnership with NNPC.

The FLNG is expected to come on line in December 2026.

The project is expected to create more than 7,000 jobs.

UTM Offshore awarded JGC Corporation the pre-FEED works for the project in May 2021.

In November 2022, a consortium consisting of JGC Corporation and Technip Energies was awarded the project’s FEED work.
