Oman’s OQ launches landmark LPG facility

SALALAH, May 4, 2021 – Oman’s OQ has commissioned its landmark OQ Liquified Petroleum Gas (OQ LPG) facility in Salalah, the company said on Monday.

The pioneering project – the first to extract LPG from Oman’s rich gas resources – saw an investment of USD 826 million. At full capacity, it will produce 300,000 tonnes of LPG per year.

The facility is strategically situated in the Salalah Free Zone adjoining the Port of Salalah, where OQ sees potential for an LPG-driven energy hub.

In 2012, Tecna won the contract for FEED works, while in 2017 Petrofac was selected to carry out EPC and start-up.

The project also saw significant involvement from local players, with more than 150 SMEs involved and USD 260 million of spending on in-country value.
