OOCEP to drill two exploration wells

MUSCAT, June 15, 2015 – Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (OOCEP) is planning to drill two exploration wells in the east of the sultanate at the Sharqiya structure, according to the Oman Daily Observer.

OOCEP, the upstream oil and gas subsidiary of Oman Oil Company, has identified two key prospects at block 42, situated at the Sharqiya structure. The company is the sole shareholder and operator of the block, which covers an area of 25,600 square kilometres.

Drilling of the first exploration well is expected to happen in the second quarter of 2015. Work on the second well is planned to take place shortly after with the aim of targeting the Sedrah northwest structure.

The two exploration wells are planned to be drilled back to back in order to optimise civil construction and rig mobilisation activities,” OOCEP said in a report regarding its upstream activities.

According to OOCEP, block 42 represents a “suitable starting point” for the company to implement its goals of conducting exploration operations in Oman.
