Orpic to start Liwa work next week

MUSCAT, October 3, 2016 – Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) on Monday said the groundbreaking ceremony for the Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) would take place on October 10.

Scheduled for commissioning in 2020, the USD 6.5-billion project is currently in the detailed design stage. The engineering, procurement and construction contractors carrying out the various packages include the US-Taiwanese tie-up between CB&I and CTCI Corporation, Tecnimont, Punj Lloyd, GS Engineering and Construction and Mitsui.

“Being located in Sohar as part of an integrated complex that also houses the Sohar Refinery, aromatics plant, polypropylene and steam cracker unit for LPIC, Orpic’s operations will be one of the most integrated refinery and petrochemical operations in the region and will enable the company to extract the maximum value from Oman’s oil and gas,” Orpic CEO Musab Al Mahruqi said.
