PDO to begin CO2 enhanced oil recovery pilot

MUSCAT, November 29, 2023 – In what will be a first for Oman, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) announced on Wednesday that it will begin an extended pilot using CO2 for enhanced oil recovery.
The pilot will take place in the north of Oman and will consist of an initial continuous injection over three months followed by a long-term injection of up to one year.
H.E. Minister of Energy and Minerals Salim Al Aufi said, “The pilot undertaken by PDO exemplifies both the company’s and the country’s unwavering dedication to simultaneously boosting production and decarbonising operations.”
The project represents a technological milestone for PDO and a significant advance in the country’s progress towards achieving its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
