Saipem wins key contract for Guyana’s Whiptail play

GEORGETOWN, November 29, 2023 – Saipem has been awarded an EPCI contract by ExxonMobil for works at its Whiptail oilfield project on Guyana’s prolific Stabroek block, the Italian engineering and construction company announced on Wednesday.

Scope of the contract includes design, fabrication and installation of subsea structures, risers, flowlines and umbilicals for a large subsea production facility.

Saipem will utilise its FDS2, Constellation and Casterone vessels to complete the works.

The company will perform fabrication at its Guyana Offshore Construction Facility in the Port of Georgetown.

ExxonMobil is waiting for regulatory approval of the Whiptail development, its final planned project in the country.

The company currently has three FPSOs on several projects on the Stabroek block, with the third production vessel, the Prosperity FPSO, commissioned at the Payura play earlier in November.

The company plans to install six FPSOs in the country.

Production from the Stabroek block is expected to hit more than 1.2 milllion bopd by the end of 2027.

Saipem’s EPCI works are part of two contracts together worth around USD 1.9 billion, including a contract with Norwegian NOC Equinor for work on the pre-salt Raia project on the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

Works in Brazil consist of offshore transportation and installation of a subsea gas export line and associated equipment in water depths of around 2,900 metres.

The Raia gas and condensate project is located around 200 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro.
