Petrobras announces new Campos Basin oil find

RIO DE JANEIRO, November 18, 2025 – Brazil’s Petrobras has discovered high-quality oil in the post-salt layer of the Campos Basin’s Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde block, the company announced on Monday.
Exploratory well 4-BRSA-1403D-RJS, located 108 kilometres off the coast of Campos dos Goytacazes in 734 metres of water, encountered an oil-bearing interval that Petrobras has confirmed through logs, gas shows and fluid samples.
Drilling at the well site has been concluded, and samples will be sent for lab analysis to determine reservoir and fluid characteristics, and to assist in the further evaluation of the area’s hydrocarbons potential.
The Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde block was acquired by Petrobras in 2018 during Brazil’s fifth production sharing round. Petrobras holds 100% interest in the asset, with Pré-Sal Petróleo acting as the block manager.
Petrobras is Brazil’s state-controlled energy giant and a key player in deepwater exploration and production. In the Campos Basin, the company has focused on revitalising mature fields and exploring new pre-salt and post-salt opportunities.
