SANTIAGO, October 5, 2022 – Petrofac has been chosen by green asset operator Transitional Energy Group to be the lead engineer of their Gente Grande green ammonia project in Chile, the international energy services company announced on Tuesday.
Under the contract, Petrofac will provide feasibility and environmental studies, design preparations and construction expertise. Once permits are accepted by the local government, the company will oversee engineering and construction of the facility.
Permits are to be submitted in Chile by the end of 2023.
The wind-powered asset will be located on the coast of Tierra del Fuego in the Magellan Straits region of Chile. The asset will generate 3 GW and produce 1.3 million tonnes of green ammonia per year.
“We are pleased to confirm the recent selection of Petrofac as owner’s engineer for the Gente Grande project in Chile, which is set to be one of the most competitive large-scale green ammonia developments anywhere in the world,” said Tim Adams, managing director of Transitional Energy Group
