Petronet LNG to set up facility in Bangladesh

DHAKA, December 29, 2016 – India’s Petronet LNG has signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a USD 950-million LNG regasification project with Bangladesh Oil and Gas Corporation, or Petrobanga.

 

The deal was signed between Prabhat Singh, managing director of Petronet, and Syed Ashfaquzzaman, secretary of Petrobanga, at the Bangladeshi NOCs office in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The project includes a regasification terminal on Bangladesh’s Kutubdia Island as well as related pipeline infrastructure. The facility is set to have a capacity of 7.5 million tpy and will take four years to complete. In addition to the pipeline feeding the country’s gas grid, barges and trucks are set to deliver the resource to unconnected users.

Bangladesh has a daily demand for gas of about 93.5 mcm (3.3 bcf), while gas supply currently stands at 76.5 bcf (2.7 bcf).
