Iraq, Kuwait to revive gas trade

KUWAIT CITY, December 28, 2016 – Iraqi Minister of Oil Jaber Al Luaibi on Wednesday said the country aims to begin gas exports to Kuwait in the near term. Speaking to local media on his visit to the Gulf state, Al Luaibi indicated that two countries aim to revive plans to that end.

First floated in 2004 and again in 2008, Iraq strives to initiate work on a gas export plan “very soon,” Al Luaibi was quoted as saying by Kuwait News Agency. Under a previously reached tentative agreement, Iraq was to supply some 1.41 mcm (50 mcf) per day at the onset of the project before ramping up flows to 2.83 mcm (100 mcf). The project called for eventual supplies of 5.66 mcm (200 mcf) per day.
